New <a href="https://thenevadaindependent.com/article/why-is-nevada-gold-mines-one-of-lombardos-top-donors-in-governors-race">reporting</a> <a href="https://americanjournalnews.com/lombardo-under-fire-as-donor-cash-follows-controversial-actions/">shows</a> that Joe Lombardo fired Nevada’s top water regulator after he proposed a draft policy to protect water access that could have curbed the profits of one of his top donors, Nevada Gold Mines. Just weeks after water regulator <a href="https://thenevadaindependent.com/article/it-was-a-shock-nevada-water-regulator-speaks-on-why-he-was-fired">Adam Sullivan’s firing</a>, Lombardo’s campaign and supportive PAC received $510,000 on top of a half million dollar donation in 2024 from Nevada Gold Mines.&nbsp;Sullivan was fired last December after leading a proposal for water management at the Humboldt River basin that would prevent water shortages, but could potentially cut into Nevada Gold Mines’ bottom line by altering their water rights. A lobbyist from Nevada Gold Mines <a href="https://thenevadaindependent.com/article/mining-industry-privately-griped-to-lombardo-about-top-nevada-water-regulator-before-firing">emailed</a> Lombardo’s chief of staff to complain and this nonpartisan state engineer was fired a month later. Sullivan himself has <a href="https://thenevadaindependent.com/article/it-was-a-shock-nevada-water-regulator-speaks-on-why-he-was-fired">said</a> he was fired because his draft decisions threatened the entrenched power of Nevada Gold Mines.This scandal is the latest example of Lombardo doing favors for big corporations at the expense of the Nevadans he was elected to serve. In 2023, he <a href="https://thenevadaindependent.com/article/big-pharma-big-bucks-analyzing-how-and-why-the-industry-donates-to-nevada-politicians">vetoed</a> a measure to lower prescription drug costs and received nearly $100,000 from Big Pharma shortly after. He also <a href="https://thenevadaindependent.com/article/las-vegas-hotel-mogul-robert-bigelow-spends-nearly-50-million-to-support-lombardo-other-republicans">vetoed</a> affordable housing and tenant protection legislation while taking millions of dollars from slumlord billionaire Robert Bigelow.See coverage below:<a href="https://americanjournalnews.com/lombardo-under-fire-as-donor-cash-follows-controversial-actions/">American Journal News</a>: Lombardo under fire as donor cash follows controversial actions<ul><li>A review of campaign finance disclosures shows that Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo took in large special interest donations following some of his most controversial decisions. The pattern suggests that Lombardo may be more loyal to his donors than his constituents. </li><li>A recent example concerns Adam Sullivan, who spent more than six years as the state’s top water regulator before he was abruptly fired in December 2025. Sullivan monitored the safety of dams and wells and was responsible for enforcing water access laws. He was the first regulator to be fired in 44 years. </li><li>Now, new reporting from the Nevada Independent says the ouster was preceded by Lombardo’s office receiving hundreds of complaints from mining companies about a Sullivan-led plan to curb groundwater pumping in the Humboldt River Basin. That same month, it gave $10,000 to Lombardo’s reelection campaign. </li><li>A similar dynamic played out in 2023 when Lombardo vetoed a bill that would have extended prescription drug savings for Medicare recipients to all Nevadans, saving families thousands of dollars a year on medicine. </li><li>After the veto, Lombardo’s campaign and an affiliated PAC took in more than $80,000 from groups that opposed the legislation. A year later, Lombardo’s PAC took in $50,000 from Healthy Nevada PAC, a group representing the interests of pharmaceutical companies. </li><li>Lombardo also vetoed two bills—one in 2023 and another in 2025—that would have created new protections for renters by establishing a legal process for evictions. Attorney General Aaron Ford released the following statement on inflation soaring to a <a href="https://www.fox5vegas.com/2026/04/10/soaring-gas-prices-leads-biggest-monthly-inflation-spike-four-years-march/">four-year record</a> in March as a result of Donald Trump’s Iran War:&nbsp;“First, Trump unlawfully taxed Nevadans an average <a href="https://nevadacurrent.com/2026/03/20/las-vegas-restaurant-owner-has-some-bones-to-pick-with-trump/">$1,700</a> per household with his illegal tariffs. Joe Lombardo has supported those tariffs, saying that Nevadans need to ‘feel a little pain.’ Now, Trump is spiking inflation and forcing Nevadans to pay more for gas and groceries because of his Iran War—which Joe Lombardo also supports. The Lombardo-Trump alliance is driving Nevada into the ground. It’s clear that Joe Lombardo will continue bear-hugging President Trump as he tanks our economy and rips away our rights.“As someone who grew up eating stale candy bars for dinner when times were tight, I know what it feels like to feel your heart sink as the bills on your kitchen table soar. <h4>Attorney General Ford Announces State Legislator Endorsements</h4>

Today, President Trump <a href="https://x.com/yashar/status/2008959425067827230?s=46">announced</a> that he will call on Congress to ban large institutional investors from buying single-family homes – putting him directly at odds with Joe Lombardo who vetoed <a href="https://gov.nv.gov/uploadedFiles/gov2022nvgov/content/Newsroom/vetos/2023-06-16_Veto_SB395.pdf">a bill</a> that would have limited the ability of Wall Street corporate landlords to buy up housing stock in Nevada and drive up costs. Lombardo <a href="https://nevadacurrent.com/2025/05/28/at-lombardos-request-hansen-reluctantly-blocks-bill-to-rein-in-runaway-corporate-home-ownership/">blocked</a> a similar bill during the 2025 legislative session, then refused to include it in his special session proclamation.&nbsp;Attorney General Aaron Ford has made it clear <a href="https://www.reviewjournal.com/news/politics-and-government/nevada/ag-ford-launches-bid-for-nevada-governor-3404102/">since day one</a> that as governor, he will sign legislation to limit corporate homeownership within the first 30 of the 2027 legislative session. The second largest homeowner, another Wall Street firm, is based out of Dallas and owns <a href="https://www.reviewjournal.com/business/housing/this-company-is-likely-the-second-largest-homeowner-in-the-las-vegas-valley-3427264/">another 3,400 homes</a>.&nbsp;“We’ll need to see what this bill looks like, but I’ve been clear: when I’m Governor, we’re going to limit Wall Street firms from coming into Nevada, buying up our homes, and pricing hardworking families out of their neighborhoods,” said Attorney General Aaron Ford. “Here in Nevada, Governor Lombardo has been our biggest roadblock to affordable housing. He vetoed and blocked similar plans to stop Wall Street firms from controlling our housing stock before refusing to include similar legislation in his special session proclamation. As I have said time and again, I am willing to work with anyone, Democrat or Republican, who is serious about lowering costs for Nevada families — that includes President Trump.”###

<h4>After Lombardo Vetoed Legislation to Limit Corporate Homeownership, Trump Sides with Ford on the Issue</h4>

Today, Attorney General Aaron Ford announced that he raised nearly $1.5 million during the first quarter of 2026. In the first three months of 2026, Ford raised more than $1.2 million into his campaign — the most raised by a non-incumbent candidate running for governor in Nevada history. An additional $215,000 was raised into an affiliated PAC. He visited Elko on Nov. 13 to what he described as a standing-room crowd at the Duncan Little Creek Gallery and Bar on Commercial Street. About 50 people attended.</li><li>"I went to all 17 counties, because rural Nevada matters," he said in an interview on Thursday. "Throughout my entire career, as an elected official I've worked with Democrats and Republicans to pass bipartisan legislation that makes the lives of Nevadans better, wherever you are."</li><li>Ford is challenging Gov. Joe Lombardo, a Republican, who is serving his final term. Current polls put the two within survey margins of error. An October Noble Predictive Insights poll had Lombardo leading Ford by 3 points, 40% to 37%, with 23% of voters undecided. The poll's margin of error is 3.5 percentage points.</li><li>Ford described himself as a "bipartisan problem-solver" who has stood up to both the Trump and Biden administrations "because I don't care who occupies the White House."</li><li>"If you're harming Nevadans, I'm not going to back down, you know. Look, I've been meeting with legislators over the past few months and I've been putting together my affordability agenda. And I couldn't put it together without talking to the Nevadans. This is a people-centered campaign and the people have to be in the center of it," Ford said.&nbsp;</li><li>"Elko is a very important economic driver in our state, and so I was there last week," he continued, adding he's been to Elko several times, including the National Cowboy Poetry Festival the past two years.</li><li>"I've campaigned in West Wendover several times. The current governor hasn't even been to West Wendover, even though the community has asked him to come out there," Ford said. "But I've been there."</li><li>He said he was the first Democrat to win a rural county in more than a decade. "I've won more rural votes than any other Democrat on the ballot in 2022 and I have success because I have a simple rule: I take no one for granted and I talk to everybody."</li><li>Ford said he's had strong support from some Elko County politicians, winning endorsements from West Wendover Mayor Jasie Holm; Carlin council member Margaret Johnston; West Wendover council member Gabriela Soriano; and Izzy Gutierrez, a former West Wendover council member.</li><li>Ford's [rural] agenda will focus on several key points: transportation, health, housing and insurance costs.</li><li>The attorney general noted what Elko County residents had on their minds when he visited.</li><li>"What Elko residents told me was that their number one concern was affordability and how are they going to pay for the housing bills while also putting food on the table and picking up their prescriptions. And you know, these are the things that people are worried about all across the state. And that's what I want to learn and I got good information from my visit there."</li></ul>###
